Harmonizing – The Revolution at a Glance

Everything You need to know about the Revolution Orchestra

1. What is The Revolution Orchestra and what defines its mission?

The Revolution Orchestra is an interdisciplinary music lab for original orchestral works. Our mission is to challenge traditional concert conventions by creating “moving movements”: immersive experiences where original orchestral music composed especially for our orchestra serves as the foundation for a dialogue with other artistic disciplines – cinema, theater, dance and video art.

2. Who are the artistic directors behind the orchestra?

The orchestra was founded and is led by composer Zohar Sharon and conductor Roy Oppenheim. From the orchestra’s humble beginning as a students’ orchestra at the Hebrew University, when the two were about to complete their bachelor’s degrees, this creative duo has spent over two decades redefining the orchestral landscape, earning prestigious recognition such as the 2024 Tel Aviv Rosenblum Award for their contribution to the performing arts. For his music, Sharon also won the Navon Prize for Preserving and Nurturing Israeli Cultures (2024). The two also teach – Zohar lectures at the Hebrew University and Rimon School of Music, and Roy heads the Contemporary Writing and Production Department at Rimon School of Music and lectures at Tel Aviv University.

3. What makes a “Revolution” production different from a standard concert?

Unlike traditional orchestras that excel in performing existing repertoire, we are creators of new orchetsral interdisciplinary shows. We develop original content referring to and inspired by the origins- canonical music of the orchestral arena. At a Revolution show, the music is not an accompaniment but a central player that interacts with theater, contemporary dance, cinema, and digital video art.

4. Where can I experience The Revolution Orchestra live?

We perform at Israel’s leading cultural venues, including The Israeli Opera House, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Haifa Auditorium, and the Herzliya Performing Arts Center (as part of our signature “Revolution Series”). We also perform at other venues occasionally (Desert Sounds Festival, Jerusalem theater, Yagur hall, Nes Ziona Hall and others).

5. Has the orchestra performed internationally?

Yes. The Revolution Orchestra has brought its innovative Israeli sound to world-renowned stages, including the Royal Albert Hall in London, Sibiu International Theatre Festival in Romania, and Tbilisi Theatre Festival in Georgia.

6. Which artists has the orchestra collaborated with?

We have a rich history of collaboration with leading contemporary artists across genres. Notable partners include J.Views, Third World Love, Infected Mushroom, Dudu Tassa, Gidi Gov, Hadag Nahash, Ivri Lider, and the iconic “Zehu Ze!” ensemble. Many of these collaborations are available to stream on Spotify and YouTube.

7. Is the orchestra’s work suitable for non-Hebrew speakers?

Absolutely. While some productions may include theatrical elements in Hebrew, the core of our work is a universal, visual, and musical language. Most of our interdisciplinary journeys – especially those involving video art, dance, and cinema – transcend language barriers. This season we have Chaplin’s Modern Times, Moods, Bach The Revolution Version and Bolero X for you to enjoy. In previous seaons we had Gershwin – The Revolution Version, J.Views, A Standard Revolution, Third World Love, The International Animation Project and The Israeli Animation Project and many others.

8. How can I stay updated on “Next Movements” and tickets?

The best way to join our journey is by subscribing to our newsletter on our website, and by actively following our Next Movements page for upcoming show dates and ticket links. Follow us on social media (Facebook, Instagram) to get a behind-the-score look at our creative process.

9. How can I find the best prices or discounts for a Revolution show?

The most cost-effective way to experience our productions is by purchasing a Subscription (Series Membership) at the Israeli Opera House, Haifa Auditorium, or Herzliya Performing Arts Center. This also guarantees the best seats as memberships are sold prior to the open ticket sale. Additionally, depending on the specific venue, discounts may be available for residents (city-specific), labor unions (Va’adim), and various loyalty clubs. We recommend checking the specific performance venue’s box office for the most up-to-date discount arrangements.

10. How do I handle ticket exchanges, refunds, or technical issues with my booking?

Ticket sales and customer service are managed directly by the venues where we perform (such as the Israeli Opera, Herzliya Performing Arts Center or other ticket providers, listed below).
